Databricks Migration & Modernization

Fabric Airlift

The governed migration factoryfor Databricks.

Move legacy warehouse and ETL estates to the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform with agent-accelerated conversion, execution-verified parity, and an evidence trail every cutover sign-off can stand on.

Conversion is a step. Governance is the product. Evidence is the moat.

Why Airlift

Where enterprise migrations actually die

Not in the SQL. In the unverifiable conversion, the ungoverned cutover, and the missing trail.

The conversion tool says 90%

A transpiler converts most of the SQL, but nobody can say which objects are actually safe: what was validated, against which snapshot, with which tool version.

Airlift certifies every object with a parity certificate that states its own evidence depth — row counts, aggregates, sampled rows, or full checksums — and a policy blocks certificates that overclaim.

Cutover night is a spreadsheet

The go/no-go call lives in a checklist and a bridge call. Approvals are Slack messages; rollback is a plan in someone’s head.

Waves are governed state: cutover is structurally blocked until every object is certified and the configured approvals are collected. Rollback is a first-class governed action, not an apology.

The auditors ask who did what

Six months later, compliance wants the trail: who approved the wave, what evidence backed each object, what the converter version was.

Every transition is a Fabric Platform action in an immutable event log. One export assembles the whole trail — content-digested, replayable, independent of the vendor.

The loop

Assess. Plan. Convert. Certify. Cut over. Attest.

Six stages, one governed pipeline: every transition is a Fabric Platform action with policy, state machine, and an event in the org’s own audit log.
  1. 01

    Assess

Lakebridge Analyzer runs as a Databricks workspace job; the estate inventory, complexity, and report land as governed records with a pinned tool version.

  2. 02

    Plan

Objects are grouped into cutover waves — governed state with owners, windows, and separation of duties from the start.

  3. 03

    Convert

The deterministic Lakebridge pass first; a Harness repair agent works the residue with sandboxed execution. Every attempt is a recorded, versioned governed action.

  4. 04

    Certify

Parity suites compare source and target; the certificate carries evidence depth, snapshots, sample volume, and the validation run — and policy enforces the org minimum.

  5. 05

    Cut over

The wave gate checks every certificate and every approval before execution; the durable workflow waits on a real approval signal and fails closed on expiry.

  6. 06

    Attest

One governed export assembles the replayable evidence pack for a wave or an object, keyed by content digest in the audit stream.

Agents, bounded

Agents convert. Humans decide.

The conversion-repair agent is a Fabric Harness agent: it proposes translations, executes them in a sandbox, and records every attempt through the same governed actions the console uses. Policy — not prompt — keeps it there: an agent actor can never certify parity, approve a wave, or execute a cutover.
  • Allowed: record assessments, register discovered objects, start and record conversions — rate-limited per estate.
  • Blocked by policy: parity certification, wave approval, cutover execution and rollback, governance configuration.
  • On the record: every denial is a ComplianceBlocked event in the org’s audit stream.

Fabric family

One governed runtime, seven products

Airlift is a Fabric family vertical: it composes Platform, Harness, Experiments, and the family delivery patterns — it never re-implements them.
